The Special Function Officer program is a great first step toward a career in law enforcement or corrections. Students learn the basics of police work, including laws, patrol, investigations, safety tactics, and CPR/First Aid. This training prepares you for advanced programs and helps you build the skills needed to serve and protect in Utah.

Admission Requirements

Students must provide their high school transcripts, GED, or diploma.

Must be at least 19 years of age before the end of the program.

Must complete the NPOST exam before entering the program.

Must have a signed POST-approved medical release form.

Must have completed a Utah POST application.

Must pass physical standards on the first day of class:

  • Vertical Jump: 14.5 inches

  • Push-ups 14 Reps

  • Isometric Plank (:30)

  • 1.5 Mile Run (16:11)

Of Special Note: A felony conviction in the past will make it extremely difficult for the student to pass the Utah State POST application or get a job in this industry.
