1. Purpose
1.1. To support the advancement of skills and knowledge for Tooele Technical College employees, their spouses, and their children by granting basic college tuition waivers for programs offered by the College. Employees are encouraged to develop their skills at the College first and then at other reputable institutions as coordinated with their supervisor and as available time and resources allow.
2. Definitions
2.1. Tuition – Refers to resident tuition rate only.
2.2. Fees – Program Fees, lab fees, books, or other additional charges.
2.3. Employees - As identified in the Employee Definitions Policy.
2.4. Spouse- An individual legally married to an employee, where there is no legal separation or divorce.
2.5. Children- Individuals who are natural or legally adopted children or step-children of an employee, whether married or not, regardless of age.
3. Policy
3.1. Courses taken by an employee at the Tooele Technical College at the request of a supervisor.
3.1.1. Supervisors and employees are encouraged to use Tooele Tech courses that directly relate to their position for professional development purposes. When a Tooele Tech course is taken at the request of a supervisor, all associated costs will be waived with the following stipulations:
3.1.1.1. The course is part of the employee’s professional development plan and has been approved by the employee’s Vice President
3.1.1.2. The course should be taken during normal work hours, which avoids the position’s peak hours of responsibility.
3.1.1.3. Employees should enroll in one course at a time, and additional courses should be evaluated separately after the course has been completed.
3.2. Courses taken at Tooele Technical College by the choice of an employee and the employee’s eligible family members may be taken with the following assistance guidelines:
3.2.1. Employees must be currently employed to utilize this benefit. Substitutes and adjunct employees are not eligible for this benefit.
3.2.2. Employees who terminate employment with the College disqualify themselves, their spouses, and children from participating in the Educational assistance program.
3.2.3. Tuition and enrollment fees will be waived by the College. Differential Tuition, Program, and Course Fees will be the responsibility of the employee or their eligible family member.
3.2.4. Space must be available in the class without excluding regular tuition-paying students.
3.3. Required Professional Development external to Tooele Tech, which is directly related to the employee ’s position, must be coordinated with the supervisor.
3.3.1. The approval of the training will consider several factors, including the value of the training relative to all costs, the professional development budget, and the frequency of the employee’s training relative to other professional development needs.
